Mexico's meetings industry drives 1.83% of GDP. And it keeps growing.

Attendees of corporate events spend 94% more than a conventional tourist, and a single 2,000-person conference can inject close to a million dollars into the local economy. Realis opens city by city to connect organizers with verified venues.

The MICE sector in Mexico

A large market, without a digital layer to connect it.

According to Mexico's Ministry of Tourism, each attendee of a corporate event spends on average 14,000 pesos across venue, lodging, transport and food. That's 850 USD per person at a national event and 2,219 USD at an international congress, compared to 450 USD for a conventional tourist.

Mexico City as a MICE destination

A strategic sector, recognized at the institutional level.

Mexico City's Ministry of Tourism (Sectur CDMX) explicitly recognizes meetings tourism as a strategic sector: a congress or convention is the city's best form of promotion because of its impact on local economic activity.

Coordination between the federal government and the industry is documented: the Ministry of Tourism has strengthened its collaboration with COMIR for information exchange, participation in IMEX Frankfurt and the Tianguis Turístico, and access to the DataTur platform to measure economic impact at the regional, state and municipal levels.

COMIR has presented the progress of the Mexican Bureau of Conventions and Congresses (BMCC), driven by SECTUR, COMIR and CNET, to consolidate Mexico as an internationally competitive destination. The initiative is still being built — a signal that the sector still lacks a unified digital and promotional layer at the national level.
